Screening, Q&A Session in Toronto on April 8

Come see Forgetful Not Forgotten at the Home Health Care Expo 2009 in Toronto. On Wednesday, April 8, Chris Wynn will be presenting his documentary in two screenings – 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. – that give you a chance to see the film and participate in a Q&A session with the director.

Offering timely information on products and services for family caregivers, the Home Health Care Expo is a day of info sessions, demonstrations, and guest speakers that also gives you access to over 70 exhibitors, Disease associations, Home Care agencies and more – and admission is free.

Forgetful Not Forgotten in Montreal Gazette

Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein dedicated his February 27 column to Chris Wynn’s story of how and why the film Forgetful Not Forgotten was made.

Much of the power of the documentary comes from Wynn’s personal approach. “A producer advised me that given the nature of the film, I should expose myself and dive right into it. It was difficult, but I did it. Doing that not only helped me tell my father’s story, but has also, oddly, made me feel a little better about the disease and has helped me get through the whole ordeal.

Forgetful Not Forgotten in Toronto Star

A feature interview with Chris Wynn as published on the Toronto Star’s health matters website, Healthzone.ca, focuses on the impact that John Wynn’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis had on the Wynn family, and the feeling of isolation that all caregivers feel.

Caregivers don’t get the funding they deserve,” [Chris Wynn] says. “My mom thought, ‘This is my husband. I have to do this alone.’ And that’s impossible. Doctors, nurses, family, friends, community…It takes a whole team to care.

In her concise and astute review in the Globe and Mail, Henrietta Walmark touches on many of the important elements that make Forgetful Not Forgotten such an important film, especially for those touched by Alzheimer’s disease. She points to John Wynn’s family’s dedication, and to their willingness to adapt to a changing father and husband as a key lesson for viewers: “That fluidity, the ability to let go of the old John and embrace the new John, provides an invaluable insight into how to cope with Alzheimer’s.
