Re:Prolonging the life of someone with dementia 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Mary, thank you
My mother passed away a few weeks ago, and of course there were some opinions about how to care for her in the end stages. It eases my conscious to know that I focused on her quality of life, as opposed to her duration. In the last year my mother wasn't able to walk, feed, dress herself. In her last few days she was able to take a few steps, dance, sing, laugh, share and communicate to me love, memories, and guidance on how to care for her in her final days. Instead of tubes, etc in a hospital setting, we chose at home surrounded by love, family, music and memories. There were only myself, my husband and her cat....it was truly painfully beautiful and what my mother wanted. Thank you for putting it in writing as well. I can't stress enough to anyone and everyone, if you want it, write it down!! We could have done without the struggles and losses of relationships provided some sort of advance directives, provisions were written.
Many blessings to you on your journey.

Re:Prolonging the life of someone with dementia 7 Months ago
hi my father also had a Gi bleeding meaning bleeding from the bottom last couple months ago . his intestines are not moving actively so now i feed my father much less from b4 and i will monitor his bowel movement. Now he is always on lactulose and polisium to help his bowel movement. He seems doing ok now. I was wondering u mentioned obsttructed bowel means similar to my father's case?

He is 90 years old and i have the same feeling. I wouldnt put him on anymore cpr surgery those stuff if he means its time for him to go. Prolonging life is no meaning for him. At his age i dont want him to suffer anymore. There should be a better life after that,i believe. I just wish everyone peaceful when the time comes.
