Caring for Caregivers

Stress can creep up on you slowly, and then take the form of a debilitating condition or illness that may take you away from your caregiving duties for days or weeks – affecting both you and your loved one.

Never underestimate the mental and physical toll that caring for a person with Alzheimer’s can take on you. Like any added responsibility in our lives, caregiving offers both opportunities for growth and the potential for stress. And because caregiving is a task that grows increasingly demanding over time, stress in this role is basically inevitable – it’s an occupational hazard. So it is important to keep your eye out for its effects on you, and to have some strategies to help you cope.

Before you fall victim to the very common condition known as caregiver burnout, take the time to recognize the first signs of stress, take care of yourself, and try some of our tips for managing or reducing it, as well as our tips for taking better care of yourself overall.
