My story is probably very boring to many of you who may read it. I have dealt with Alzheimers patients for many years and have seen first hand the disease process and utilized many interventions to assist these patients but more or less dealing with many many family members of these patients who have a difficult time understanding what is happening to their loved one. I, myself also saw my grandmother develop this horrific disease which was very hard on our family.
I am a Registered Practical Nurse that has worked in a long term care facility for 14 years . I am currently working in the locked unit (special care unit) which is also known as the alzhimers ward. I have been working on this unit for over 4 years now and I truly love working with the alzhemer patients.
I am joining this forum to read about other peoples stories and search for any advice people may have in order to help me and my staff manage some of the patients that we do have and see if there may be some helpful tips for us. I am also here to help anyone that may need my proffessional advice on the disease as well and provide you with any tips that I may have to help you ! |
