Unlike many of you, I am not dealing with the effects of Alzheimer's on a family member although i do have some experience of the illness from my time nursing on a geriatric ward.
The reason I joined is that I have a very dear friend who, whilst dealing with her own issues (well and bravely) is also watching her father suffer with this illness and only 2 years after losing her mom.
I'm here because this friend is like a sister to me and I love her, just so.....
It's ok to 'be there' or 'offer to help' but I want the help I offer to be real, to matter and to make a difference.
I hope that by chatting with you all here, I will gain more of a personal understanding of Alzheimer's and maybe one day, be able to help my friend before she asks for it.
Bear with me friends, I think it may be a long haul, but I do it with my eyes and heart wide open....any advice you would like to share would be appreciated, by both of us.
Thank you
