Wynn Family, thanks for sharing your story. Saw it on Knowledge network Jan. 20, after following Obama's Inauguration, quite an emotional day.

You posed the question whether it is easier to deal with Cancer or Alzhiemers. Our family is dealing with Cancer taking Mom, and my take on this is that loss is loss. The reason becomes irrelevant, accepting the inevitable tests us all, and loss and death is certain for us all. What troubles me, is that we seem as a society, still unprepared and ill equiped to deal with loss and death.

Having been close to death myself once, I learned that it is easier to be the one in the bed than around it, and it was life changing. As a result, I worked very hard to give my son the needed perspective and skills to deal with loss, something we deal with every day. All we ever have of anyone or anything are our memories. When we suffer loss, what changes is that no new memories are created.

People are most resistent to change, yet it is certain for all of us, nothing is for sure or forever. As a society, it would be helpful for all to learn to embrace change and loss from a very young age in a healthier way and celebrate and appreciate with gratitude, every moment of every day.

The way your family dealt with John's dis-ease is an inspiration for all. Thank you for documenting your process.

Sincerely, Linda Dudley
